Sorry, Not Sorry

One of the qualities that I look for in a friend is being unapologetic. Yes, like the name of the 2012 Rihanna record, I like my friends to mean what they say and not have any regrets afterwards. It is something worth getting used to while hanging around with my skwa and probably where my dry sarcastic sense of humour comes from (which a few get, while most think I'm being a jerk). That being said, I went to sorry coffee with my friend Matt, the driest, most sarcastic individual on planet Earth who will be making critically acclaimed movies one day (in which I will be starring in).

Located in Toronto's Mink Mile, behind Kit and Ace (Lululemon’s upscale sister brand with the best athleisure wear a guy could ask for), is the coffee shop for any instagrammer who has used the words "aesthetically", "pleasing" and "marble" altogether in a figure caption or as separate hashtags (whatever floats your boat, hunny). A cloudy Wednesday morning was the perfect time for Matt and I to check out Sorry Coffee Co. Upon arrival, we were welcomed with a matte black facade that enabled the tiny lighting of the store to stand out perfectly, drawing in the modern blogger. The glass door entrance informed customers that cash was not accepted and how they were open most of the time, but closed on occasion. The ambiguity of hours and limited methods of payment set the tone and kept true with the theme for being unapologetic. Inside the store were marble fixtures and rose gold metal finishes on shelving, blenders, coffee machines that looked amazing against a black chevron tiling that enclosed the whole space. These details added the extra hint of affluence and modernity in an already luxurious neighbourhood.

Besides the clean, sleek store design, Matt and I (well mostly me because he doesn't give 2 shits about fluff) were lured to the in-store merchandise sold in a corner by the cash wrap. Black and white mugs that read "Sorry, not sorry" were sold along with black canvas totes that read the same thing. I couldn't help but fan girl over such aesthetically pleasing merchandise that matched my soul... and my wardrobe (black, white, and grey). In addition to these items, the shop sold signature coffee blends, pastries, and obviously bar made hot drinks. I ordered an Iced Americano, while Matt ordered a Latte. One thing to remember upon your visit is that drinks are served in one size only. For a crash dieter like myself, this was perfect, but for you coffee addicts out there, a second cup wouldn't hurt.

Getting work done is ideal in a coffee shop. However, regardless of being hidden behind Bloor Street and other popular retail, Sorry is packed as early as 10 a.m. To snag a table, you need to be exceptionally early especially if you need the right amount of space to position your laptop next to your coffee. I was surprised to see how busy this branch was. Now reflecting on my experience, it was definitely a communal space where shoppers, businessmen, and students would come to work on assignments, have meetings, or just take a break. This particular branch had little seating, loud music, and ceiling to floor windows which enhanced a grab-n-go effect. Because seats are limited, Sorry flows into the Kit and Ace fitting room lounge right beside the custom made clothing bar. There you will find more sofas and tables to spend time and enjoy your coffee.

While you’re on Bloor, definitely check out Sorry. For a quick and easy pick me up, the coffees are crafted perfectly to help give you a boost to your day. The company has other stand alone locations which are bigger than the Bloor branch, but their sarcastic witty humour found on cups and glass fixtures solidifies the the carefree, unapologetic vibe associated with the brand. Sorry Coffee Co. is a great way to elevate your coffee shop experience. I definitely recommend a visit.

Candidly,

Jonah
