Location Series 1: Harbourfront
Lately, I have been obsessed with “Pratt Cast”, a podcast hosted by Stephanie Pratt (The Hills) and Wells Adams (The Bachelor). In a recent episode, Pratt tells her therapist about her previous relationship that ended on reality television. She states that she knew “something bad was about to happen when she saw her boyfriend (now ex-boyfriend) standing by the water” waiting to have a serious conversation about their relationship. Pratt mentions in British television, serious talks usually occur on piers or harbours as it elicits a sense of drama and personal reflection for a cast mate. After hearing her remarks, I began to think and she does have a point.
Toronto’s Harbourfront is one of my favourite places in the city. It is the backdrop where my friends and I have dense conversations about life over patio drinks or Pinkberry. There is something about an open body of water that fuels my creativity and alters my perspective on life. The fresh breeze evokes a sense of coolness, while the sounds of crashing waves and the sense of isolation from looking out in the distance drowns the negative noise of uninspiring people. I find the Harbourfront a nice escape from life’s drama and allows me to regroup and realize how blessed I am as a young adult running around in the big city.
If you’re currently overwhelmed and need a place to unwind, I suggest spending some time by the Harbourfront. Personally speaking, I think everyone should have their special place where they go and do some self-reflection. In a hectic society fuelled by material goods and social media likes, I find it imperative to have some downtime away from a screen and realize how lucky you are to even own a phone. Take time out for yourself. Relax, refresh, and recharge.
