Welcome to a candid look into my life.

This past weekend, I happened to be in Richmond Hill, one of Ontario’s cities that has eased lockdown restrictions. While running errands, I was tempted to drop by one of their newly reopened salons for a long awaited haircut. Normally, I visit chain salons owned by large corporations. But as we enter our new normal, I wanted to support a small business, having realized the economic setback due to the abrupt temporary closures.
The past four weeks have been extremely polar. There are moments that I have enjoyed and others I cannot bear to relive. Ever since the news of COVID-19 and the strict precautions of the government, life has not been the same. I would be ignorant to compare my life to a prisoner but in the words of Katy Perry, I definitely feel “chained to the rhythm” of something unexplainable. Since childhood, I’ve been taught to remain optimistic and grateful for the positives that have blossomed from a dark period. With that being said, I’ve created a list of my “positives” that have come about during this pandemic.
Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses are still operating… remotely. Since I will be quarantined from society for three (maybe more) weeks, it is imperative I effectively accomplish my duties without falling into of temptation Netflix, social media and online shopping. Working from home definitely has its challenges but we have to remain on top of our grind and continue securing the bag. Here are my tips to make WFH NBD.
February has come and gone, which means my first month of work has been successfully accomplished. Although work had some stressful moments, the following items helped me feel confident and organized through new challenges. This month’s favourites consist of my go-to products that help boost my mood during the workweek.
I have made my relationship with acne a known struggle. Ever since high school, I’ve tried various products, completed numerous regimes and researched various methods to control breakouts. Thankfully, with the help of Dermalogica, I have acquired a more proactive, long-term approach to maintaining clear skin.
It’s been a while since I found a new coffee spot. Thankfully, thanks to my search for Aritzia’s infamous “Super Puff”, I happened to stumble upon A-Ok Café. Located inside of Bloor Street’s Aritzia flagship store, I checked out the instagrammable coffee shop and determined if it’ll make my list of coveted gems in Toronto.
Now that January slowly comes to an end, I think it is appropriate to list the items that have powered me through a crazy month. Can’t lie, January has been filled with many blessings. From connecting with fellow creatives to starting my dream job, I cannot wait to see what the rest of the year has in store. That being said, I am more than confident these following products will be of tremendous value in the upcoming months.
This past weekend I visited Oshawa Centre, Oshawa’s premier shopping destination just footsteps away from Trent University. To my surprise, I found myself roaming the aisles of Zara and actually enjoying myself. The Spanish retailer is currently in the middle of their Winter Clearance and I couldn’t help but drop some bank on fashion-forward, yet timeless pieces. Here are my top menswear picks from this year’s Zara Sale!
There’s nothing more appalling than being a victim of an awful trend. Although most trends quickly come and go, some stay for years. However, just because a certain item or a specific way of styling a piece has proven longevity in fashion, doesn’t mean you should join the masses committing fashion disasters. That being said, I have listed the following menswear trends that leave me VEXED. Although I still see them around, these trends leave me with the urge to poke my eyes out.
One crewneck. Three ways. Recently, I received Cozy Hype’s “WE COZY” crewneck. In a vintage-washed forest green, I immediately thought of the various ways I could style this closet staple. With a fit inspired by sweatshirts from the late-80s/early-90s, I couldn’t wait to add a modern touch to a timeless piece. Here’s how I would style the crewneck in various situations
With 2 weeks into the new year, I am glad that I have not lost my drive to accomplish some (if not all) of my goals. This year, I have elevated my desires and have focused on improving certain aspects of my life for long-term gain. Although attending Coachella has been one of my “resolutions” since high school, what happens after that? Will I feel empty again inside? Kicking off the new decade with a fresh perspective, I foresee my new goals to facilitate extended satisfaction.
My quest to expand my palette on plant-based food continues in high gear. With the long-term goal of eventually becoming completely plant-based, I realize that taste does not have to be compromised. This weekend, I checked out By Chloe, a new vegan restaurant at Yorkdale Mall. Located in the Restoration Hardware wing, the popular New York City established chain housed a variety of delicious meals crafted by celebrity chef, Chloe Coscarelli. With only 20 locations worldwide (and only 1 in Canada), By Chloe shows that great healthy, eating at an affordable price point can be achieved.
Five malls across three cities; that pretty much sums up my Black Friday weekend. When it comes to shopping, especially for others, I do not play. I take Christmas shopping on a budget seriously and I am always searching for fabulous items at low prices. Due to frigid temperatures and an ice storm, I was not able to hit up the outlets, but nonetheless, I did find some nice pieces to add to my wardrobe. Disclaimer: I won’t be featuring what I got for presents, since I’m all about a surprise. But, I’m stoked to show you guys what I was able to cop for 30% to 50% off! Here’s my 2019 Black Friday Haul.
The last Friday of November is not just any other day. As a self-proclaimed professional shopper, it comes as no surprise that Black Friday is, if not, my favourite day of the year. Waking up before dawn and heading to the outlets has been a family tradition ever since childhood. With years of Black Friday experience, I present to you my tips to conquer retail’s busiest day.
The holiday season is in full effect and with that comes frantic shopping. Budgets, sizing, colours and trends are some additional factors to consider while deciding who will receive a present under the tree. As a self-proclaimed mall rat with years of retail and shopping experience, I have compiled a list of my top favourite things that will make amazing stocking stuffers while not breaking the bank. Did I mention each item costs under $25? Without further adieu, I present to you my 2019 Holiday Gift Guide:
I am highly selective when it comes to men’s accessories. When purchasing pieces to add-on to my outfits, I have a specific criteria that must be checked. For instance, I tend to gravitate to timeless items that are rugged, yet sleek or pieces that have a modern, vintage feel. In particular, when choosing a bag, I love pieces that incorporate various fabrics and rugged hardware to a classic silhouette. These details create durable items for my hectic and adventurous lifestyle. Thanks to the kind people at Bespoke Post, I finally own the duffle bag I never knew I needed.
As November marks the beginning of the holiday season, holiday cups become a social media staple and store shelves are decked with soon-to-be wrapped presents. Although I love giving gifts to family and friends, this year I want to shift the focus to those that may have not experienced the warmth of the holiday season. For as long as I can remember, my family has participated in Operation Christmas Child to provide shoe boxes filled with necessities to impoverished communities. This holiday, I encourage you to join my family fill up shoe boxes that will provide a sense of hope to less fortunate children worldwide.
I love to personalize my belongings. All throughout middle school and high school, I remember writing my initials on notebooks, pencil cases and even my calculator. I was not concerned about losing my belongings, rather, I was concerned with differentiating my belongings from the rest of my class. As the demand for fashion rapidly increases, runway collections, especially accessories, become mass produced. I absolutely despite seeing someone own something I have, wether it be a small leather good or a ready-to-wear item. Therefore, adding bits of my character and personality on my belongings is a factor I consider when purchasing luxury items.
Primarily known for its relaxing beaches and local markets, Isla Mujeres is the fantasy land away from Cancun’s party scene. After a hectic year revolving around school and work, I longed for the opportunity to relax and explore a different way of living. Not only did I want to escape from Toronto’s fluctuating weather, but I needed to isolate myself from social media, instagram filters and a society extremely focused on purchasing the latest name brands. With the help of Contoy Adventures, I was able to recharge and regroup before heading back to a busy September schedule. My day at the island allowed me to participate in new activities, be present in the moment and celebrate my mom’s birthday… in the middle of the ocean.
September may be here, but that does not mean summer has come to an end. Summer 2019 may have been the hottest one yet, but I wanted to make it even hotter. What better way to intensify the hottest summer of my life by escaping to the sunny beaches of Cancun, Mexico. During my visit, I resided at the Óleo Cancun Playa. One the newer all-inclusive boutique resorts in Hotel District, Óleo garnered an impressive 4.5 stars out of 5 on Trip Advisor alone. Besides seeing photos and reading excellent reviews online, I wondered if the boutique resort would surpass my expectations and this summer one to remember.
It is no secret that I love designer labels. It is exhilarating trying on the latest runway and swiping my (dad’s) card. Having pieces from Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent and Tisci’s Burberry, I wanted to discover brands I have not previously owned. Enter Prada, the Italian staple known for their iconic nylon accessories. I have never been attracted to the brand until recently when many of my favourite influencers have incorporated the nylon styles into their looks. However, will I end up giving into hype surrounding the brand?
Vogue magazine suggests that Toronto’s Queen Street West is one of the “coolest places in the world”. Although this holds some merit, as a fresh faced Torontonian, I believe that Kensington Market takes the proposed title. From the vintage clothing stores to the hidden cafés, the colourful neighbourhood should be on everyone’s list to explore.
Since 1879, The Canadian National Exhibition has been a Toronto staple. For some, the Ex is the epitome of summer break, but for most, it marks the seasons’ end. I haven’t been to the CNE in years so a comeback was imperative. Primarily attending to capture photos, I quickly realized that the memories created that night simply could not be captured in any photograph.
Cities worldwide have been capitalizing on communal spaces. Shared office spaces and pop-up exhibitions are a few examples of how these spaces can bring people together. In the midst of Downtown, Toronto, Stackt Market is the latest addition to these spaces. After hearing mainly positive reviews from the concept, I visited Stackt to pinpoint what made it special.
This summer, I have been notoriously rocking the graphic tee. From laid back outfits at the beach to a dressier ensemble at brunch, I turn to graphic tees to incorporate an extra edge to my look without doing the most. Below are my favourite tees of the season and links to where they can be purchased!
In her 2007 music video for “Don’t Stop the Music”, the original bad gal, Rihanna, entered a convenient only to be taken to a nightclub through a secret passage way. In 2019, I took inspiration from the good girl gone bad and visited Convenience, a fully-functioning convenient store upon entry that transitioned to a restobar. Located on Queen Street West’s Parkdale Neighbourhood, I dragged my best friend, JP, across oblivion to finally experience all the hype.
Pratt mentions that in British television, serious talks usually occur on piers or harbours as it elicits a sense of drama and personal reflection for a cast mate. After hearing her remarks, I began to think and she does have a point.
Summer in Toronto is in full swing. As if the city isn’t already hectic as it is, summer in the city just elevates the stress. Rushing to an event in the middle of humid, sticky weather is never cute. That being said, I’ve noticed several items ranging from fashion, grooming, and tech that I just can’t live without. Here are my summer style essentials to get you powering through the day and chillin’ by night.
In the search for Toronto’s hottest brunch spot, I knew I had to visit the Broadview Hotel for their famed Bistro + Bar. The hotel’s casual dining hall has become a popular backdrop for several Toronto-based influencers. With several photos of the bistro’s food and interior constantly on my feed, I decided to check out the Broadview myself to see if I felt any closer to my blogger dreams.
What does Hollywood and I have in common? Besides loud, exciting fans, I’d like to say self-care. As a person who lives by the mantra, “go find time for yourself”, I was in the market to find some products that helped prioritized my well-being. That being said, I was super ecstatic when news broke that Goop would be opening a Toronto pop-up between now until September 22.
