A Simple Spring

As winter says its final farewell, so must your down jacket. I don’t know about you, but I am tired of looking like a marshmallow with a fur hood as I go to class and run errands. Now that spring is within arms reach, I have noticed all the top menswear bloggers rocking certain pieces that give their look am optimism for the warmer weather approaching. What I love about the things I will discuss is that they can be combined to create one relaxed look. Here are some of the things I have noticed in stores and on major influencers that have helped lighten their look.

THE WHITE TEE

A timeless classic by far. The white tee never fails to disappoint in this time of year. The versatility of a simple piece makes it an essential in every man’s closet. Worn under an oxford button-down, a leather jacket, or just by itself with the sleeves rolled up pays homage to the 1950s Grease Lightning era. This time not only had the best mens style of any decade (in my opinion), but it goes to show how you can get away with something simple for future seasons. Since these are a fashion staple, you can get them almost anywhere. The one I happen to be wearing is from Club Monaco. Giorgio Armani himself stated that he’s “always thought of the T-shirt as the Alpha and Omega of the fashion alphabet.

SURFER GRAPHICS

What better way to ditch your winter looks by trading them in for a surfer inspired tee. Growing up, I have been a fan of graphic tees, but for some reason, store haven’t been pulling it off as of recent. Just a few weeks ago, I dropped by the James Perse boutique in Toronto and I was greeted by 3 mannequins dressed in the Scoop Neck Graphic Tee, as shown below. Unfortunately, the men’s version had not hit stores yet, but once it does, you better believe that I am making a purchase. The Cotton Linen Graphic Crew boasts 2 palm trees on the back with a toned down version of Andy Warhol’s pop art. Such a simple design creates a flattering statement for outfits in the spring.

MEDIUM WASHED DENIM

Lighter denim has always been the craze for warmer weather. Because summer has not fully arrived yet, just keep your light washed and super destructed jeans in your closet for a bit longer. A dark rinse wash is great, but as the sun sets later, you want your jeans to not be so dark. For pants and jackets, a medium wash, like these A.P.C.’s I found at Nordstrom or these Abercrombie one’s give a more rugged, adventurous twist on dark jeans.

LIGHT WEIGHT HOODIES

Obviously. You won’t need jackets anymore so opt for a nice zip up hoodie. I recently went to Urban Outfitters and copped 2 since they were on sale for $14 each. Hoodies act as a nice layering piece for times when it gets chilly or too windy out. What I love about the ones at urban is that they already come pre-distressed giving your look more character.
