This past weekend I visited Oshawa Centre, Oshawa’s premier shopping destination just footsteps away from Trent University. To my surprise, I found myself roaming the aisles of Zara and actually enjoying myself. The Spanish retailer is currently in the middle of their Winter Clearance and I couldn’t help but drop some bank on fashion-forward, yet timeless pieces. Here are my top menswear picks from this year’s Zara Sale!
Wool Feel Utility Overshirt
Price: $30, Discount: 65% off.
This was actually the first piece I stumbled upon entering the store. Perfect for this year’s mild Canadian winter and as a transition piece to spring, this piece is actually an iteration of Massimo Dutti’s (Zara’s upscale brand) wool overshirt priced at over $200. Paired with distressed denim or slacks, the overshirt is extremely versatile and adds the perfect layer of warmth to any outfit.
Rubberized Overshirt with button
Price: $26, Discount: 65% off.
This was the second piece I purchased, which I found lying on the ground. If you can’t tell, I am obsessed with navy overshirts (this style came in black but I found it too formal). Unlike the first overshirt, this is made from thinner material which is perfect for warmer months and boasts a cropped fit which elongates my appearance. Again, this simple item is extremely versatile and will last many seasons.
Pleated Pants
Price: $16, Discount: 65% off.
Cropped, pleated pants have been done by many brands like Allsaints and Sandro for triple the price. Therefore, it is a no brainer that these slacks have made the list. The loose, cropped fit enhances comfort and movement, making these pants perfect for work and for a night out. I would accessorize this fit with a silver chain attached to two belt loops paired with a tucked in tee with Converse.
COMFORT KNIT PINSTRIPE PANTS
Price: $16, Discount: 65% off.
I did not see these pants in store, but I have seen many pricier variations of this style. I would wear this pant to a variety of places: brunch, class, work - the list goes on. The timeless pinstripe is modernized with the slouchy cropped fit and drawstring. Perfect for the summer months, I see myself styling this with a Harley Davidson graphic tee underneath a varsity inspired silk bomber.
Quilted Plaid Coat
Price: $80, Discount: 65% off.
Winter fashion is all about having a statement coat with patterns and textures. Zara’s mustard overcoat is perfect for fall, holiday parties and Valentine’s dates. Personally, I find $80 expensive for a trendy coat from a fast-fashion retailer. However, because my Zara camel coat (purchased 5 years ago) has lasted with minimal pilling and distress, I can justify this purchase.
Monochrome Protective Cell Phone Case
One epic collaboration comes into mind: Dior x Rimowa, one of the most sought-after releases in the world of men’s fashion. Therefore, if you have an iPhone 11, this is the case for you. Composed of textured stainless steel and rubberized edges, Zara’s iteration has a similar flair to that of Dior at a significantly reduced price point. In 4 various colours, you’ll definitely find the one for you.
These are some of the pieces that caught my eye in store. Shopping fast fashion can pose a challenge since many items can last for only a few seasons. Therefore, when making my list, I included pieces that stand the test of time in terms of style and quality. Unfortunately, Zara’s online store does not include certain styles and sizes, which I purchased in store. However, I am excited to style them on my Instagram feed in the coming weeks.
