Glasses are a staple in my wardrobe. Besides the fact that my vision is extremely poor, my spectacles are a signature that defines my personal style. Starting at age 11, I have worn numerous pairs of glasses from a plethora of designers (the first being Gucci). Now at age 24, I wanted a new pair of timeless specs that would elevate my style with sophistication and maturity. Thanks to Oliver Peoples my search is finally complete.

Oliver Peoples was introduced to the world in 1987 along California’s famed Sunset Boulevard. Known for their discreet branding, the company is famous for their throwback inspired styles created by the highly luxurious materials. It also doesn’t hurt if their frames have been featured in several blockbuster movies for several years. As their North American expansion continues, I knew I had to get my face in one of their designs as soon as the Yorkdale boutique opened.

Unlike other optical stores, Oliver Peoples’ boutiques evoke a sense of Old Hollywood glamour. The turquoise blue walls coupled with chestnut brown cabinets and gold metal fixtures complemented their sleek, well-crafted frames displayed on glass shelving throughout the store. Yorkdale housed a wide selection of sunglasses and optical frames for both men and women. I was extremely impressed to see the limited-edition collaborations with other designers (such as The Row and Byredo) being sold in store as well.

I couldn’t be happier with the pair I ended up choosing. After trying on pretty much the entire store, I opted for the Delray in dark military, although the Cary Grant in emerald bark coming really close. The round shape of the frame sits perfectly above my eyes, elongating my face and the transparency of the acetate used still adds a youthful, playful vibe for a more mature piece.

If you are in the market for luxury eyewear that will last through generations, I suggest you visit Oliver Peoples and try out some pairs. Your eyes will thank me later.

Candidly,

Jonah
